The Microbiology Department in Rajarshi Shahu College
is established in the year of 1986. The student association of Microbiology was formed on 17th September, 1988. It was named as ‘Microbiol’. The association
has started publishing the wall magazine ‘Microviewer’. Wall
magazines are regularly displayed. The wall magazine in their
content includes recent advancements in the subject and related
areas. The association conducts and arranges welcome functions, elocution competition, debate competition, general
knowledge test, science quiz, felicitation function, study circle, blood detection
and blood donation camp, relief / flood fund.
The Department has organised the State Level seminar on ‘Uses
of Microorganisms in Biotechnology’ on December 7, 1990 and symposium on ‘Recent
Trends in Biotechnology for Rural and Industrial Development on March, 20-21, 1999. The
department with its facilities, is actively involvedin research activities,
the major thrust area for research include study of biocontrol agents, biofertilizers,
pesticide pollution control, microbiologic
analysis of soil, water etc.
Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded recognised this Department as a ‘Research Centre’. The staff members of this Department are actively involved in
university examination work.
The staff members of the Department have also representation
on different bodies in S.R.T.M.University, Nanded. The Department has kept a prize for
the B.Sc. student who stands first in the college in university examination in the
name of former student Late Ku. Malti Birajdar since 1993.
