The Biotechnology Department in Rajarshi Shahu College is established in the year of 2005-06.  It is established in a separate three storied building.under this department the academic courses Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and Master Of Science in Biotechnology were started. 

In recent years biotechnology has made significant advances and emerged as a front line area of research and development with an overwhelming impact on the society. Biotechnology is the injection of scientific knowledge into manufacturing process by which marketable goods are made out of biological phenomena.  It involves the study of methods by which living resources can be tailored to generate industrial processes and novel specimens for use in agriculture, forestry, horticulture, medicine, health and environment. Commercial potential of biotechnology is immense since the scope of its activities covers the entire spectrum of human life.  Biotechnology is an indispensable discipline in modern technological education and has attached considerable attention.  Excellence in biotechnology is a must to remain internationally competitive.

Biotechnologist are required in all Agro - based biotechnological companies, quality control divisions, research and development divisions of pharmaceuticals industries,  genome based projects in animal and  plant tissue cultures.  Many biotechnological companies are coming up in and aroundMaharashtra.  They all require talented and well groomed biotechnologists.

Rajarshi Shahu Mahavidyalaya is proud to have experienced, qualified, research minded and highly motivated staff in biotechnology department.  Qualified and highly dedicated members of the staff had carried out research work at their own accord with available resources and facilities.
