Department of Photonics
Department of Photonics was instituted in 2007 under UGC innovative programme for emerging trends in science and technology and has at present 01 faculty members. About 25 students are enrolled for their M.Sc. degree. The infrastructure of the department is potentially very sound. We are having well equipped practical laboratories for M.Sc. I and II. There are separate research laboratories one in material science and other in holography.
Aims and Objectives
- We wish to make photonics as per the institutional standards and applied oriented.
- To develop the department as centre for advanced studies in laser technology, fiber optics and holography.
- To achieve academic excellence and overall development of the students in this area.
- To cater need of nearby industries by producing trained manpower to enhance their productivity.
- To offer analytical and consultancy service to the industries.
- To develop entertainship qualities of the studies.
Research presently being pursued
-
Thin film solar cells
Synthesis of nanosize materials has got tremendous importance because of their applications in the field of science and technology. We work on nanosize coating on transparent conducting oxides and metal chalcogenides for various applications. Mainly chemical deposition technique such as spray pyrolysis is being used for production above said materials.
-
Holography
Holography is an exciting branch of discipline of optics. The process in holography has made because of surprising facts either of refolding of figure can be used to reconstruct the original wavefront.
Collaborations
Some of our students do their industrial project at Sterlite optical industries Aurangabad, Suresh Indu lasers Pvt. Ltd Pune, Solapur University, solapur, DRDO New Delhi, RRCAT Indore, DRDO Hyderabad, C-Met Pune etc.
