Rajarshi Shahu College , Latur was established in year 1970. We are in our thirties now. The  history of Shahu College is full of trials and tribulations. In the beginning, we had to fight for survival due to the problem of accommodation, finance and non-recognition by the elite class of society of this region.
During the first five years, we faced very critical situation. The college campus was at a different locality on the outskirts of Latur city. So we were not able to get the required number of students and the situation was so bad that there was a talk of closing down the college or at least some of its faculties. During this critical period, our team of dedicated teachers was led by Dr. J. M. Waghmare, the first Principal of our college and first Vice-Chancellor of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University. Then the Management decided to shift the college campus from previous location to present site in the month of August 1976. At this critical situation, a Messiah Rev. Father Aurelius Meshchio of Don Bosco School, Mumbai appeared in the life of college and blessed us to overcome the adverse situation. Shri. Ranchoddas Uka gave us the premises at nominal price. We have kept them in our memories alive by naming our ladies reading room and boys reading room in their name. Rajarshi Shahu College is a leading institute of higher education in Maharashtra. We have evolved a ' Shahu Pattern ' which is widely known as ' Latur Pattern ' of education. This pattern has shaped hundreds of toppers in Higher Secondary Board and University Examinations especially those coming from rural background.

What is Shahu Pattern? : It is devotion, dedication, consistent and untiring striving by inspired teachers, motivated students helped by hard working non-teaching staff, encouraged with ideas and incentives, non interference, insistence on idealism, ethical values, excellence in education by the management - all put together makes a driving force - an Engine. Yes - this Shahu Pattern is  widely known as ' Latur Pattern ' of education in Maharashtra State.
          National Assement and Accreditation Council(NAAC) is the only agency in India which does the work of assessment for Higher Educational Institutions and assigns Grades as per the Institution standard. And after assessment of Rajarshi Shahu College, NAAC has assigned “A” Grade with a score of 88.25%  to this Institution. This is the highest score acquired by any institution in this region known as Marathwada.
