DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
Mission : The History Department prepares students for a wide range of careers by teaching a core set of transferable skills through the study of societies, cultures across a broad chronological and geographical spectrum. Careful attention to evidence, drawn from a wide variety of source material.
Vision : The History Department seeks to build its students transferable skills, employability and intellectual curiosity, along with raising public awareness about the past and its legacies, through teaching, research and service activities conducted locally, statewide, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Department Profile : The Department of History was started in 1970. It is a matter of pride for us that the first Head of the Department Dr. B. M. Patodekar became the Registar of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. The department has faculty strength of two members, both are actively involved in teaching and research.
Practical Skills for Students : Develop practical skills helpful in the study and understanding of historical events. They are: a) Draw historical maps, charts, diagrams etc. b) Prepare models, tools etc.
Interests : Develop interests in the study of history and activities relating to history. They are: a) Collection of old coins : Once Latur was once a part of Rashtrakuta region. Even now coins, historical materials of these times are found in Latur. Whatever coins we could collect, have been preserved as “collection of old coins” by the college. b) Educational Tour of History Students : To increase the interest of the students in this subject, a tour is arranged every year. The Department has visited a number of historical places in Maharashtra and other states comprising Ter, Tuljapur, Verul, Ajantha, Paithan, Nashik, Pune, Raigarh, Mahad, Kolhapur, Pratapgarh, Mysore, Shrishailam, Charminar, Ooty, Kanyakumari etc. c) Visit of eminent People : The college is most thankful to the scholarly personalities like Dr. Pandharinath Ranade, Dr. Morwanchikar, Barrister B. N. Deshmukh and Dr. S. S. Rode for their visit to the college. d) History Study Circle : To develop the students interest in History, the study circle in History has been working in the college for many years. The circle also holds “ Seminars” on different subjects from time to time. e) Read historical documents, maps, charts etc. f) Play active roles in activities of the historical organizations and associations. g) Write articles on Historical topics.
Department Events :
1) Modi Script Training Course : On 26th Jujy 2016 to 30th July 2016 during this period department of History had arranged a Training Course of ‘Modi Script’. Mr. Mahesh Joshi, founder member of ‘Vasundhara’ Modi Script Research and Development, Pune. He guided 91 of our students and 15 teachers about Modi Script in our college. In the training course, students were given information about vowels, consonants, alphabets, chronology system, Arabic months, name of days etc. in Modi Script. Students could learn reading and writing in Modi Script.
2) Organising Different Competitions for Students : For the students of History subject, History Department arranged informative, educational, entertaining and also historically compatible competition. which included : Quiz Competition, Cooking Competitions, Historical Booklet Making Competition, Making Models of Historical Monuments Competition & Handicraft Competition.
Library : The Department has a small reference library as well as some “Historical Booklets” made by students donated to us. Books and Historical Booklets are issued to the students, and they are permitted to sit in the library and work/refer the books during working hours.
