DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
Department of History is one of the oldest Department of our college. The
Department of History was established in 1970. It offers History as an Optional Subject at
U.G. level. Our Department undertakes many important activities like History Association,
Guest Lectures, Educational Study Tours, Different Competitions (Quiz, Rangoli, Recipe,
General Knowledge, Making Historical Monument Model, One Minute Show, Modi
Transcript, Poater, Drawing, Fort Making etc.), Modi Script training workshop, Historical
Drama Presentation, Heritage Walk etc. To develop the student’s interest in History, the
History Association has been working in the college for many years. The department is most
thankful to the scholarly personalities like Mr. Vidyadhar Kande Patil, Mr. Atul
Deulgaonkar, Dr. Anil Kathare, Mr. Pradip Solunke, Miss Deepali Ghadage, Dr. Suresh
Waghmare, Dr. Baburao Bikkad, Principal Namdkumar Nikam, Dr. Prashant Deshmukh, Dr.
Shivraj Bokade, Dr. Sanjay Waghmare, Dr. Anil Singare, Dr. Deepak Gaikwad, Dr. Sadashiv
Dande, Mr. Bhujang Bobade, Dr. Lahu Gaikwad, Dr. Sahebrao Gathal, Dr. Kamaji Dak for
their visit to the department. To increase the interest of the students in this subject, a
Educational Study Tours were arranged every year. The department has visited a number of
historical places in Maharashtra comprising Ter, Tuljapur, Verul, Ajintha, Paithan, Nashik,
Pune, Raigad, Mahad, Kolhapur, Pratapgad, Ahmednagar, Junnar, Ozar, Lenyadri, Naneghat,
Aurangabad, Kharosa Caves etc. History department had organized a Modi Script Training
Workshop We guided our students about Modi Script in our college. In the Training
workshop students were given information of Vowels, consonants, alphabets, chronology
system, Arabic months, name of days etc. in Modi Script. Students could learn reading and
writing in Modi Script. The Department has a reference Departmental Library. 500 hundred
books in this Library. Books are issued to the students.
Mr. M. R. Patil & Mr. S. S. Bhandwalkar served in the department. At present Dr.
A.D. Tak is serving as the Assistant Professor with two Asst. Professors Dr. Priyadarshani
Patil and Dr. Rahul More..
History Museum
One History Museum is start by our Department. Chhatrapati Shivaji History Museum
and Research Center, Latur is the name of this museum. Our object is to preserve our cultural
and historical heritage by collecting various evidences to history study. Consistency will be
maintained in obtaining evidences of research by the Department of History regularly. It is
always challenging task for the Department of History to collect sources and evidences in
addition.
The main object of all above work is –
a) The explain importance of historical sources and evidences to the students.
b) These evidences are include for preservation of historical and cultural heritage.
In the academic year 2016-17 To till date through the students of History Department
nearby 1500 coins were collected. Floating brick of Ter (Dist. Osmanabad), cannon balls, old
weight, Stick of Nizams period, copper plate script & commodities of daily use, rare postal
stamps, manuscripts etc. were collected for the museum to be start by the our Department. It
is naturally an asset of our Department. This is medium to conserve historical evidences by
history department as a contribution to history study.
