DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS AND ELECTRONICS

The Department of Physics was established in the academic year 1971-72 and introduced Electronics as one of the optional subjects at undergraduate level in the academic year 1980-81. The department started Postgraduate programme M.Sc. Physics with specialization Photonics in the academic year 2007-08 under UGC’s Innovative Programme scheme. From 2006-07 the department was recognized as star department under UGC’s CPE scheme and DST-FIST sponsored department from the year 2014-15. The Department is running B.Sc. with Physics and Electronics as one of the optional subjects. From the year 2017-18 Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern has been implemented at Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate level. As a part of CBCS, at UG II Year Skill Enhancement Courses namely Applied Optics and Radiation Safety in Physics subject, PCB designing and Electrical Equipment maintenance in Electronics subject have been introduced. At PG level the department is running Photonics as specialization wherein courses related with Optics, Laser, Fiber Optics, Photonic Devices and Sensors, Thin Film and Nanotechnology, Industrial Phonic Engineering are offered. Also under CBCS the courses like Experimental Techniques and Energy Physics are offered as electives. At the Postgraduate final year a Research based Project of 200 marks is offered wherein students are completing research projects in the fields of Thin Films, Material Science, Supercapacitors, Solar Cells, Nuclear Physics, Electronics, Modern Physics etc. The department recognized as research centre in Physics by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded in 2004-05. The major areas of the research are Thin Film, Graphene, Gas Sensors, Solar Cells, Supercapacitors. At present in the department 02 faculties are working as University recognized research guide under whom 07 scholars working for Ph.D. and 02 Scholars have completed their doctoral degrees. In the department 01 CSIR, 01 UGC Fellow and 01 DST Project fellow are working. One faculty from the department has been awarded DST-FIST Track Scheme for Young Scientist with a project worth Rs. 24.55 Lakh in the year 2014. The faculties of the department have completed 01 Major Research project sponsored by UGC, 01 Major Research project sponsored by DST and 05 Minor Research projects sponsored by UGC. The research output has been reflected in terms of 160 papers in highly reputed international journals with maximum impact factor of 5.118 and 17 papers in Proceedings of National/International conferences and seminars. The Scopus h index of faculties is 18 with total citations of 680 and 20 with total citations of 978. The Google scholar i10-index for the faculties are 25 and 34 respectively.
