DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY


The Department of Sociology was established in 1970. The department has one full time faculty and two other visiting faculties (C.H.B.). Sociology department runs Bachelor s Course. It means sociology subject is available as an optional subject for the B.A. students for their three years bachelor degree course.

The Department organizes many activities for the development of students. For example guest lectures, workshops, study tours, field visits and various competition for students. The Bridge course conducted by the department for first year students is one of the unique features of the department through which students are given basic orientation of the subject. Main feature of this department is student oriented approach which is achieved through adopting student centric teaching-learning practices. Samajshastra Abhyas Mandal, named Pratibimb is another feature of the department. Through student Association, department runs various student oriented activities and programmes.

In the classrooms our focus is on students academic progress as well as their personality development with various social skills. Keeping in mind this goal the department motivates students to give seminars in classroom. Developing analytical ability and criticality with employability is the one of the objective of the department. So, along with various academic skills we believe in giving students various other soft skills to increase their employability.

To sum up it can be said that this department is among the most active, student centric and vibrant departments with its academic growth and its reach beyond scholarly achievements.

B.A. Sociology Programme Specific Outcomes

After completing this specific programme

1) Students will understand the principles and concepts Sociology as a social science subject.

2) Students will develop their understandings society and social issues.

3) Students will be motivated to study the social issues and find solutions.

4) Students can choose sociology as a main subject for state or civil services.

5) Students will go for post graduation courses in sociology.

6) Students will develop their knowledge of social customs and traditions.

7) Students can work very effectively to eradicate social problems in the society.

8) Students can start their own NGO after realizing social issues.

9) Students can join an NGO to work for the society.
