Department of Marathi

The Department of Marathi has been working since the inception of Rajarshi Shahu Mahavidyalaya, Latur i.e 1970. The department is recognized as a research center of Swami Ramanand Tirth Marathwada University, Nanded, Since1999. The eminent scholars, litterateur and social workers like Prof. Subhash Mendhapurkar, Prof. Sunetra Deshpande, Prof. Manohar Niture, Dr. Madhav Gadhekar, Dr. Shriram Gundhekar and Dr. Bharat Deshmukh were the heads of the department and contributed a lot by their works to the academics.

Dr. Shriram Gundhekar has done great research work in Maharashtra on Satyashodhaki Literature. He published four books on literature, critical analysis and history of Satyashodhaki Literature.

Through the Marathi research center, twelve researchers have been awarded Ph.D and presently three students are doing their research at this center. During last five years, the faculty members published two books and thirty-two research articles.

The department is running under the headship of Dr. Sambhaji Patil. The Students’ Association of Marathi Language and Literature conducts various activities for the all-round development of the students. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of poet Kusumagraj, the department organizes different competitions and celebrates Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din every year on 27th Feb. As a part of the best activity of the department, Vachan Sanskruti Chalval (an Academic Activity for developing Reading Culture) is practised to impart the reading skill among the students and the staff members.

The Marathi department has a rare collection of 1250 books of Satyashodhaki Literature.

Some of the activities of the Department include:

• U.G.C. sponsored workshop was organized for New Story Writer, on 22 & 23 Sept. 1984.
• Workshop for New Writers was organized on 28 Nov. to 01 Dec. 1992 in Collaboration with the Marathwada University, Aurangabad.
• UGC and S.R.T.M.U. Nanded sponsored state level conference on Satya Shodhaky Literature on 17 & 18 Feb. 2001.
• A Workshop organized on 26 to 28 Jan. 2002 in collaboration with Maharashtra Sahitya Sanskriti Mandal for New Writers and the Writing of Novels.
• UGC sponsored National level seminar on Marathi Research Methodology was organized on 19 to 20 Dec. 2008
• A Workshop was organized on 04.03.2013 for Writing and Presentation of Stories and Poems.
• Organized National level seminar Ekvisave Shatak ani Marathi Sahitya on 10 to 11 April. 2017.
• University Level Writing workshop on Katha, Kavita Va Vaicharik Lekhan dated 26 January, 2019.
• Organized University Level Writing workshop Sarjanshil Sahityalekhan ani Lingbhav on 05 January, 2020
• State level seminar on Srujanshil Sahityachi Nirmiti Prakirya on 24 January, 2021 in Collaboration with the Maharastra Rajay Sahitya Sanskruti Mandal, Mumbai.
• State level workshop Sashodhan Padhati:Bhasha va Samajikshastre on 18 Octomber, 2021.
• National level seminar on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Yanchi Patrakarita: Shodh ani Bodh on 30 to 31 March, 2022 in Collaboration with the The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Western Regional Centre, Mumbai.
• Organized National Level Webinar Brahanmaharastratil Marathi Sahitya ani Sahityik on 27 September 2022.
• State Level Workshop on Kadambarilekhan on 28 December 2022 in Collaboration with the Maharastra Rajya Sahitya Sanskruti Mandal, Mumbai.
• Annually Organize Gandhi Vichar Sanskar Pariksha (in collaboration with Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon) for the students of the college. Every year students win Gold, Silver, Bronze Medals.
• Formation of Marathi Wangmay Mandal for the students of the college every year.
• Organize Marathi Wikipedia Workshop for the students of the college every year.
