DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY


Department of Sociology is a vibrant and active department, started in 1970 from the establishment of the college. Graduation students can opt sociology as an optional subject for their degree course. Innovativeteaching – learning practices, which include Brain storming sessions, interactive session, Seminars, Discussion forums and various things which will promote participative learning are the part of our day today teaching.

Sociology is a discipline, which should be study beyond the classrooms. So emphasis is given on field work related activity like field visit, surveys, to enable students to become more social. Students are train to find social reality in sociological manner and at the same time develop Sociological Imagination within them. For the capacity building of the students, teaching faculties initiatively organize invited talk, area study, thematic workshops, and Bridge courses for them. Pratibimb Sociology Students Association , Rajarshi Shahu Divyang Helping center and sociology Festival, which underlines the special feature of the department, are the open forum for the students. They give an opportunity to students to enhance their abilities as a sociologist and at the same time they can explore uniqueness within them.

1) Sociology learning enables students to get acquainted with fundamental concepts and theories in sociology.

2) Learning of sociology provides fundamental and theoretical knowledge about thediscipline, which enables students to achieve pursuit of excellence in academics and human Life.

3) Curriculum of Sociology introduces contribution of Indian sociologist in Indiansociological discourse, which enrich the knowledge of students about Indian sociology.

4) Sociology learning introduce applied skills to learners, which enables them to get various professional opportunities.

5) Study of sociology enables students to interpret contemporary social realities by utilizing the varied theoretical tools.

6) Sociology learning enables students to demonstrate an understanding of theinter linkage between Varied social phenomena.

7) Study of Sociology enables students to apply research methodology skills for designing social research projects

8) Study of Sociology enables students to analyze social policies and legal provision.
