Department of Commerce


The Department of Commerce is established in 1970. It is one of the core and leading departments in the field of teaching and student centric activities. After Autonomy, in keeping pace with the advances in various aspects, the department has introduced the courses like Financial Accounting, Business Statistics, Entrepreneurship Development, Principles of Business Management, Banking and Finance, Non-Banking Financial Corporation, Financial Literacy, Business and Legal Framework, Personal Financial Management, Investment Management, E- Commerce, Soft Skill, GST, etc. The Department has academic autonomy and has been revising its curriculum regularly. The Department has successfully implemented the Choice Based Credit System for grading the students. The Curriculum of the B. Com. and M. Com. Program has been designed by taking into account CA, CS, CMA, MBA, NET, SET, and other competitive and professional examinations. The Higher Education System in India and all over the world has undergone paradigm shift in both qualitative and quantitative aspects. Its best example is NEP- 2020. This policy emphasizes on developing overall personality of students by incorporating Humanitarian and Constitutional values, creativity and critical thinking, harnessing innovation, use of modern technology and interaction with various stakeholders.

The Department of Commerce has recorded consistent improvement in its academic, research and placement performance. It offers a range of innovatively designed programs whose curricula are constantly updated to meet the changing requirement of the industry and to meet the needs of major stakeholders. We believe that our students have been well accepted in their job profiles and have consistently exceeded expectations of the corporate world.  At the department, the students are encouraged for practical training in the corporate world through field projects, research projects, mini projects and case studies. The Department has 15 MoUs with the reputed institutions and organizations for assistance in curriculum development and placement.

We are confident that our current curriculum has enabled the overall development of budding Accountants, Financial Advisors, Bankers, Managers, and Entrepreneurs. The curriculum is taught by distinguished faculty members. The efforts have been made to integrate use of recent technology and use MOOCs to assist teaching-learning process. The new syllabus has been prepared keeping in view the unique requirement of B. Com. (Hon.) for Commerce students. The contents of the syllabi have been drawn to accommodate the widening horizons of the Commerce and Management discipline and fulfil present requirement of industry and academia.

The Commerce Students Association organizes various activities throughout the year such as Career Guidance, Seminars, Workshops, Guest Lectures, Industrial Tours, Training Programs, Exhibition, Poster Presentations, Mehandi and Rangoli Competition, etc. for the overall personality development of students. As a social responsibility, this Association also organizes outreach activities in the rural areas about Cyber Security, Financial Planning, Consumer Awareness, Gender Sensitization, Women Empowerment, Tree Plantation, Blood Donation etc. Along with this, Department of Commerce every year organizes Commerce Idol Competition to enhance the competitive abilities of the Commerce students.

One of the faculty member of the Department Dr. P.R. Rodiya has registered one patent based on Women Empowerment and received one Copyright Certificate from Patent Office, Government of India. He has designed two MOOC Courses and developed teaching learning material for University of Mumbai. He is BoS Member of Solapur University. Our institution has granted Seed Money Assistance to him for research project.

The Department is a recognized research center of S.R.T.M. University, Nanded. All the faculties are also recognized research supervisor of SRTMU, Nanded. All the faculties in the department are NET, SET and Ph.D. degree holders. One faculty has completed the minor research project and three faculties are working on it. Our Research Fellows Mr. S.R. Panchakshari and Ms. Sampada Kale received research fellowship for the doctorial research. Total 15 students awarded Ph.D. degree and 24 are pursuing Ph.D. research under the guidance of Dr. P.N. Sagar, Dr. P.S. Trimukhe, Dr. P.R. Rodiya and Dr. V.D. Dhumal.
