The Department of Physics was established in the academic year 1971-72 and introduced Electronics as one of the optional subjects at undergraduate level in the academic year 1980-81. The department started Postgraduate programme M.Sc. Physics with specialization Photonics in the academic year 2007-08 under UGC’s Innovative Programme scheme. From 2006-07 the department was recognized as star department under UGC’s CPE scheme and DST-FIST sponsored department from the year 2014-15. The Department is running B.Sc. with Physics and Electronics as one of the optional subjects. From the year 2017-18 Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern has been implemented at Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate level. As a part of CBCS, at UG II Year Skill Enhancement Courses namely Applied Optics and Radiation Safety in Physics subject, PCB designing and Electrical Equipment maintenance in Electronics subject have been introduced. At PG level the department is running Photonics as specialization wherein courses related with Optics, Laser, Fiber Optics, Photonic Devices and Sensors, Thin Film and Nanotechnology, Industrial Phonic Engineering are offered. Also under CBCS the courses like Experimental Techniques and Energy Physics are offered as electives. At the Postgraduate final year a Research based Project of 200 marks is offered wherein students are completing research projects in the fields of Thin Films, Material Science, Supercapacitors, Solar Cells, Nuclear Physics, Electronics, Modern Physics etc. The department recognized as research centre in Physics by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded in 2004-05. The major areas of the research are Thin Film, Graphene, Gas Sensors, Solar Cells, Supercapacitors. At present in the department 02 faculties are working as University recognized research guide under whom 07 scholars working for Ph.D. and 02 Scholars have completed their doctoral degrees. In the department 01 CSIR, 01 UGC Fellow and 01 DST Project fellow are working. One faculty from the department has been awarded DST-FIST Track Scheme for Young Scientist with a project worth Rs. 24.55 Lakh in the year 2014. The faculties of the department have completed 01 Major Research project sponsored by UGC, 01 Major Research project sponsored by DST and 05 Minor Research projects sponsored by UGC. The research output has been reflected in terms of 160 papers in highly reputed international journals with maximum impact factor of 5.118 and 17 papers in Proceedings of National/International conferences and seminars. The Scopus h index of faculties is 18 with total citations of 680 and 20 with total citations of 978. The Google scholar i10-index for the faculties are 25 and 34 respectively. The department has successfully organized 10 National/state level Conferences/Seminars. The department has signed MOU with Sterlite Optical Technologies Aurangabad, Suresh Indu Lasers, Pune, C-Met Pune, and Vidya Pratishthan’s Arts Science College, Baramati. Also department has collaborative research work with Chonnam National University, South Korea, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Solapur University Solapur, Mumbai University, Savitribai Phule Pune University, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon and N. Wadia College, Pune.
On completion of the Program students will be able to
1)Understanding of core knowledge on various papers of Physics. Clear the concepts which help them in understanding physical phenomenon in nature.
2)Demonstrate skills and competencies to conduct scientific experiments related to Physics.
3)Identify their area of interest and further specialize in the Physics.
4)Possess advanced knowledge and skills in job market for various technical industries.
5)Relate their knowledge and skills in carrying out independent work.
6) Analyze situations, search for truth and extract information, formulate and solve problems in a systematic and logical manner.
7)Discuss debate and communicate in a clear and logical way, with graduates in Physics and other fields.
1)The students attain a sound level in basic Electronics and laid a secure foundation for research and higher studies.
2)The students have developed problem-solving skills, experimental and data analysis skills in Electronics.
3)They learn various concepts which help them in understanding construction and working of electronics equipments.
4)At the end of the course, students develop problem solving skills and learn various concepts which help in developing logical tools and models used to solve various real life problems.

This two-year master programme provides students with specialized knowledge and professional skills to prepare them for a career in the rapidly-growing field of photonics and optoelectronics. Photonics professionals work across a wide range of industries including research and development, telecommunications, and biomedical diagnostics. Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
1) Professionally address complex, multi-disciplinary real-world problems related to photonics and optoelectronic systems.
2) Proficiently apply advanced, integrated technical knowledge in photonics and the underpinning sciences and scientific methods.
3) Identify and critically evaluate current developments and emerging trends within the photonics sector.
4) Identify the potential societal, ethical, and environmental impact of photonics activities.
5) Engage in independent research, critical reflection and lifelong learning to continue to practice at the forefront of the discipline.
6) Apply broad, solid, academic theoretical knowledge within a photonic system to acquire general knowledge within related fields.
